Wessex chief standing down

From the archive, first published Monday 19th Jun 2000.

ALF Peckham has stepped down as chairman of football's Jewson Wessex League after 12 years at the helm.

Vice-chairman Norman Cook steps up to replace the 70-year-old Peckham who announced his decision at yesterday's JWL annual general meeting at the BAT Sports & Social Club.

The JWL will run with 23 clubs next season. Fleet Town drop down from the Dr Martens ranks and both Blackfield & Langley and Swanage & Herston rise from the feeder leagues.

However, Whitchurch United are under threat of being expelled from the league if they fail to get their floodlights up to the required lux standard.
