Sun shines on carnival fun

From the archive, first published Monday 19th Jun 2000.

GLORIOUS sunshine graced the St Denys Carnival in Southampton, which provided a colourful finale to a week of community events.

The fun started with a summer fair at St Denys School which included stalls, games and a magician show for children.

A junior talent contest gave 22 budding performers in three age categories the chance to show their vocal, acting and dancing skills.

The events culminated with the carnival on Saturday with floats moving from Belmont Road, around Portswood and St Denys before crossing the Cobden Bridge and finishing at Riverside Park.
