A GARDEN that sparked controversy over the height of railings surrounding it has been officially opened.
The garden at Portchester Parish Hall was delayed for weeks after a row erupted when it was discovered that the railings were an inch higher than outlined in planning permission.
Councillors approved the railings after their colleague Roger Price had highlighted the discrepancy, but it meant that the opening ceremony had to be delayed until a decision was taken.
The opening was carried out by Fareham's mayor's consort John Bryant because mayor Pam Bryant was unwell.
Parish hall trustee Nick Walker said: "Dedicating the garden to the Golden Jubilee was the best way to use the land next to the hall."
