ART lovers have been heading to a gallery in Alresford for a charity fundraising exhibition.

The New English Art Club is staging the show in aid of Naomi House children's hospice at Sutton Scotney near Winchester.

After a successful first day, 15 paintings have been sold.

The collection of paintings in oil, watercolours and etchings are all by contemporary British artists.

The exhibition at Alres-ford Art Gallery in West Street ends on Sunday with the auctioning of a painting by Tom Coates, the art club president, at an estimated price of £1,600.

There is no entrance fee and visitors are welcome between 10am and 5pm except on Sunday when the gallery is open between 11am and 4pm.
